The California Republican Assembly is most commonly referred to as the conscience of the Republican Party and prides itself as California’s oldest and most influential volunteer Republican organization. The CRA takes it’s endorsements very seriously and the two-thirds threshold makes it a tough endorsement to get. According to their website, “When CRA endorses a candidate, we are committing volunteers, resources and our reputation”
The last race heard by the delegates was the Orange County Sheriff’s race. According to people in the audience, “Dave Harrington knocked it out of the park.” Dave has a reputation in the republican community as being a “True Believer,” someone who is unwavering in his Republican values and is a constitutional conservative. Dave had one opponent seeking the endorsement but this opponent had registered as a Republican just weeks before the campaign and signed a declaration against the second amendment in a court case where he was defending the Sheriff’s policy of “good cause” for CCW holders. Dave was endorsed on the first ballot by a vote of 48 to 1.
Dave Harrington said, “I’m extremely honored to receive the overwhelming support of the California Republican Assembly, and pledge to do all I can to honor the endorsement of an organization that I have long respected.”
