Orange County — November 6 — Sheriff candidate Dave Harrington’s campaign pledges a new mission statement for the Sheriff’s department that will be implemented immediately if Harrington is sworn-in to the office. Harrington’s goal in redefining the department’s mission is to augment the Sheriff’s responsibility explaining exactly how the office will safeguard its citizens. The current mission is vague in its approach simply stating: ‘we provide exceptional law enforcement services’ without elaborating on the Sheriff’s commitment to equipping officers with the latest crime fighting techniques and training procedures.
Harrington’s revised mission statement for the Sheriff’s department is below:
ORANGE COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department exists to serve the public. Our mission is to make all of Orange County safe by hiring, training, equipping, and deploying a professional law enforcement force whose mission is to relentlessly pursue criminals and selflessly protect residents. Fiscal responsibility, professional integrity, and adherence to the highest ethical standards are our foundation.
Dave Harrington stated: “As my campaign gains momentum I’m proud to release a new mission statement for the department and further cement myself as the candidate for reform.”
He continued, “If elected Sheriff I will bring an unprecedented level of transparency to every corner of the department to bring back trust into the system. I’ll work to modernize the office bringing the latest in crime fighting tools to improve the department’s efficiency and help us catch more violent criminals faster. We must do a better job of getting violent criminals off our streets and that starts by raising the bar of the Sheriff’s department, which has been plagued by scandal for too long. It’s time to make our Sheriff’s department accountable for our safety.”
