STANDING UP FOR PUBLIC SAFETY
We are under attack by out of control policies from Sacramento that have made our communites less safe. AB 109 Prop 47 and 57 have let violent criminals out of jail early to go onto commit more crimes. We have not had a law enforcement leader willing to stand up and speak out; I pledge to be that leader.
GANG CRIME AND PREVENTION
The first step in stopping gang membership is preventing delinquency. I am dedicated to expanding the Gang Reduction Intervention Partnership, a model program for keeping kids in school and out of gangs. I will also beef up patrols in the county and embrace a zero tolerance approach to gang activity, focusing resources on eradicating gangs and their leadership.
FIXING ORANGE COUNTY'S HOMELESS CRISIS
The recent increase in crime rates have coincided with steep increases in homelessness. Instead of arguing over jurisdictions as Sheriff I will lead the way, I will support transformative solutions and I will enforce the law. In turn this will safeguard public security and keep neighborhoods and commercial districts safe so that business and job creators can grow.
RESTORING TRANSPARENCY TO THE OFFICE
I will put an end to the scandals that plague the Sheriffs department by insisting on transparency and ensuring our law enforcement upholds justice with the greatest level of integrity.
ENSURING FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
I will institute a comprehensive audit from top to bottom including every aspect of the Department to discover efficiencies and save taxpayer money while providing the level of service people should expect from the largest law enforcement agency in the county.
MODERNIZATION THROUGH INNOVATION: TO STOP HIGH TECH CRIMES
The face of crime is rapidly evolving with the next frontier being cyber crimes, including fraud and identity theft. I will ensure that the Sheriff’s department remains steps ahead of high tech criminals with the latest innovative technology.
CONCEALED CARRY PERMITS
I support an individual’s second amendment right. I believe in “shall issue” as the standard for law abiding citizens when they apply for a CCW. Period. I believe “may issue” should have no more of a “good cause” test than an individual wants to protect themselves or their families. These are the foundational beliefs forming my position and will be the foundation from which I approach the policy on issuing Carry Concealed Weapon permits (CCW) as the Sheriff of Orange County.
